LA 2028 Olympics Trip Cost: Tickets, Hotels and Transport

An LA 2028 Olympics budget depends more on which sessions you buy and where you sleep than on the base Metro fare, so build the ticket and hotel baskets before anyone commits to a flight.

1. Quick facts and the first decision

Games dates

July 14โ€“30, 2028

Ticket price context

At least one million $28 seats across the whole program; availability varies by session

Sample stay

Seven nights with two sharing one room

Sample reserve

About $1,460โ€“$2,580 per person before flights and event tickets

This budget is a scenario in US dollars, not a live July 2028 hotel quote. LA28 has published program-wide ticket price proportions, but the cost and availability of your chosen sessions differ. Taxes, fees and currency conversion also move the final total.

2. Price the actual Olympic sessions first

LA28 has announced at least one million tickets at $28, one-third under $100 and more than three-quarters below $400 across the Olympic ticket program. Those are useful affordability benchmarks, not a promise that a sought-after final or adjacent seats remain at the lowest tier. The second public drop ended in 2026; LA28 says another first-come opportunity is planned for 2027, subject to availability.

๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ Build three ticket baskets

Make a lean basket of one priority session plus a lower-demand sport, a standard basket of three or four sessions, and a stretch basket with a premium final. Use the actual checkout price including fees for each seat. Do not turn a program-wide $28 headline into your personal budget.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Seats together affect price

A group of six may find two clusters of three at different prices even when six individual tickets exist. Agree whether sitting together is worth a higher ceiling, and nominate one buyer with written limits. LA28 group sales are for much larger parties, starting at 50 Olympic tickets.

๐Ÿ” Resale is not a fallback price

Official verified resale is expected in 2027. Set a maximum before browsing it and use the official channel. An online listing is not a confirmed seat until the platform and transfer rules are clear.

3. Hotels: calculate by room, then by person

A hypothetical standard room at $240โ€“$400 a night for seven nights totals $1,680โ€“$2,800 before tax and fees, or $840โ€“$1,400 each if two people share. A four-person group taking two such rooms spends $3,360โ€“$5,600 in base room rates. Check beds, occupancy, cancellation deadlines and mandatory fees before dividing the bill.

๐Ÿจ Downtown works for several zones

Residence Inn Los Angeles L.A. LIVE and Courtyard Los Angeles L.A. LIVE are concrete options by the convention center and Downtown arena campus. Compare their final quotes with a hotel near 7th Street/Metro Center or Pico station. A kitchen can reduce food spend, but only if the group uses it.

โš“ Long Beach is a separate base

Hilton Long Beach and Marriott Long Beach Downtown make sense when several paid sessions are at waterfront venues. A lower room rate can be offset by repeated Downtown transfers; calculate the whole week, not one cheap night.

๐ŸŸ๏ธ Inglewood needs a specific reason

The Anthem Los Angeles Stadium District is close to the SoFi site, which LA28 calls 2028 Stadium. It is useful if your tickets cluster there and at Intuit Dome. Check future spectator entrances and shuttle instructions before assuming hotel-to-gate walking time.

4. Local transport and airport costs

LA Metro currently caps eligible regular fares at $5 daily and $18 over seven days when the same payment method is used. This is a 2026 benchmark, not a guaranteed 2028 Games fare. For a week, reserve $100โ€“$230 per person for Metro, LAX connections, one or two shared rides and last-mile gaps; groups with several Inglewood or Long Beach days may need the high end.

๐Ÿš† Use a rail-first route where it exists

The E Line serves Exposition Park, while the A Line links Downtown LA and Downtown Long Beach. LAX terminal shuttles meet the C and K Lines at LAX/Metro Transit Center. Those rail anchors still require a gate-specific walk or transfer.

๐ŸšŒ Games service is developing

Metro plans Games Enhanced Transit Service buses and venue mobility hubs. Do not price a trip on an unannounced free shuttle or assume every venue is beside rail. Refresh both outbound and late return routes when spectator maps are published.

๐Ÿš• Rideshares need a separate pot

A group can split an airport car or an occasional late ride, but surge pricing and event pickup zones are unknown. Record the ride as a shared expense only for people who use it; do not bury it in a per-person Metro figure.

5. Food, fees and the full sample budget

For seven days, reserve $350โ€“$630 per person for simple breakfasts, lunches, dinners, water and a few venue meals, roughly $50โ€“$90 daily. Add a $70โ€“$170 allowance for hotel taxes or fees attributable to one traveler and $100โ€“$150 contingency. With lodging of $840โ€“$1,400 and transport of $100โ€“$230, the five categories sum to $1,460โ€“$2,580 per person. Use this corrected subtotal as a planning range before flights, tickets and optional attractions.

๐Ÿงฎ Example for four friends

Two rooms at $300 nightly for seven nights cost $4,200 before tax, or $1,050 per person. Add $490 food, $140 local travel, $100 estimated lodging fees and $125 contingency: $1,905 each before Olympic tickets and flights. If each buys $350 in actual sessions, the subtotal becomes $2,255, still excluding flights.

๐Ÿ’ณ Do not double-count deposits

The hotel deposit is part of accommodation, not an extra trip category. Track when cash leaves accounts separately from the final trip total. For international friends, agree the exchange-rate date and who covers foreign card charges.

๐Ÿ“‰ Where to save without losing the trip

A refundable room near a useful rail stop, fewer cross-zone days and one shared kitchen can save more than chasing the cheapest headline ticket. Keep a paid priority sport and leave optional sightseeing flexible.

6. A booking order that protects the budget

Start with each personโ€™s ticket ceiling and minimum sports, then match likely sessions to venue zones. Price at least three refundable hotel options against those zones. Only after ticket dates and room terms are understood should the group compare flights and lock non-refundable add-ons.

๐Ÿ“‹ Write one shared ledger

Columns should show item, total, payer, participants, split rule, due date, cancellation rule and paid status. Separate the all-group hotel from optional solo event tickets.

๐Ÿ•’ Set decision deadlines

Give friends a deadline for budget approval before ticket release, then a short reimbursement deadline for the buyer. Record a fallback if the first-choice session sells out.

๐Ÿงฉ Make room fairness explicit

A double bed, sofa bed and private room are not equal value. Decide the bed assignment and split before paying; do not assume equal quarters are always fair.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I budget for LA 2028?

The seven-night example is $1,460โ€“$2,580 per person before flights and event tickets, assuming two share a room. Actual 2028 hotel prices, taxes and ticket selections will change it.

Are all LA 2028 tickets $28?

No. LA28 announced at least one million $28 tickets across the program; individual sessions and remaining inventory have different prices.

Will Metro be free for Olympic ticket holders?

Do not assume so. Current Metro fare caps are a planning benchmark, while final Games spectator services and fare products still require official details.

Should friends split every ticket equally?

Only split tickets everyone agrees to attend. Keep individual sport choices personal, and define hotel and shared transport rules separately.
