How to Plan a HYROX or XENOM Trip with Friends in 2027

HYROX and XENOM both give friends a reason to travel for fitness, but the calendars and competition days work differently. HYROX is one race built around eight runs and eight stations; XENOM’s full Decathlon scores ten separate events across two days, so your hotel and return-flight decisions should start with the format.

1. Quick facts and the first decision

HYROX

Eight 1 km runs and eight stations in one race

XENOM

Ten scored tests across two days in full format

2027 example

XENOM Málaga, January 16–17 at FYCMA

Second example

HYROX Manchester, January 20–31 at Manchester Central

As checked 9 October 2026, XENOM’s 2027 calendar is still developing, and event availability or ticket categories can change. The Hong Kong HYROX World Championships on June 10–13, 2027 are qualification-based, not a general friends-race entry. Do not purchase travel around an unconfirmed race or assume a specific heat.

2. Pick the experience your group actually wants

One friend’s preferred workout should not automatically determine six people’s trip. First ask whether the goal is to compete together, support a racer, chase a personal best or use the event as a city-break anchor. Then compare the rules and dates for the actual city.

🏃 HYROX: one continuous race day

The official 2026/27 doubles rulebook describes eight rounds of a 1 km run followed by a workout station, totaling 8 km running and eight stations. Singles, doubles and four-person relay are separate entry formats. Doubles partners run together and share station work subject to rules; a group of four can consider relay if the specific event sells that category.

🏋️ XENOM: a weekend of ten scored events

XENOM lists five events on day one and five on day two, covering lifts, gymnastic skills and conditioning. Foundations, Intermediate, RX and Elite are the current standards, with Elite acceptance controlled by the sport team. The shorter 005K format exists at Miami, but availability at every 2027 city should be checked rather than assumed.

👥 Supporters need their own plan

A HYROX spectator pass and a XENOM supporter product are separate from an athlete entry; what is included can vary by event. Some friends may cheer on competition day, others may prefer dinner and sightseeing. Give everyone a choice before splitting spectator tickets or hotel upgrades.

🎯 Choose from a published race, not a rumor

XENOM’s ticket page lists Málaga at FYCMA on January 16–17, 2027. HYROX lists Manchester at Manchester Central on January 20–31, 2027 and Hong Kong’s ordinary event on January 7–10. These are concrete starting points; pick the event, entry category and venue before locking nonrefundable travel.

3. Build a city shortlist and travel calendar

A 2027 comparison works only when you use the named venue, not a city-wide hotel search. Málaga’s FYCMA is outside the old town; Manchester Central is closer to central stations and hotel areas. The two race types may need different lengths of stay.

🇪🇸 Málaga for a XENOM group

FYCMA, the Trade Fair and Congress Center of Málaga, is the announced January 16–17 XENOM venue. A hotel near María Zambrano/Perchel may balance airport rail, historic-centre dinner access and a manageable venue ride. A Centro Histórico hotel puts leisure first; price the morning venue transfer in addition to the room.

🇬🇧 Manchester for HYROX

The organizer lists January 20–31, 2027 at Manchester Central. A Deansgate or city-centre hotel can simplify venue access, but choose the exact competition date before buying flights because the event spans many days. Compare a two-night stay around your confirmed race day with a longer weekend if several friends race on separate days.

🌏 Hong Kong is two different travel propositions

The regular AIA HYROX Hong Kong event is listed January 7–10, 2027 at AsiaWorld-Expo. The June 10–13 World Championships there are an invitation/qualification event. Do not buy a Worlds athlete trip simply because someone can enter a standard HYROX race; supporters can consider visiting only after checking access and schedules.

✈️ Book in the right order

Agree race city and division, verify official checkout, then reserve a flexible hotel and travel. If an entry is sold out or waitlisted, decide whether the group still wants that city. Check passport and visa requirements individually before committing a cross-border group booking.

4. A shared itinerary that respects the race

Keep a common arrival meal and post-race celebration, but make competition-day blocks personal. The schedule is a planning framework, not a promise of a heat time.

📆 HYROX two-night model

Arrive the day before, orient around the venue and eat nearby. On race day, leave a wide block for check-in, warm-up, the race, cheering and a potentially slow exit; friends may compete at different times. Use the day after for a relaxed city activity or travel. Some HYROX event pages say individual starts are linked only around three days ahead.

📆 XENOM three-night model

Arrive Friday for a Saturday–Sunday event, keep both days clear and depart Monday. XENOM’s published format has five tests on each day. Even if a participant’s first event ends early, they may need the same venue again. The Miami 2026 page still calls heat times pending, which illustrates why a day-by-day placeholder is safer than an invented hourly timetable.

🧳 Pack for the actual rulebook

HYROX needs the event’s approved shoes, timing/chip and race instructions; XENOM may involve lifting and gymnastics equipment allowances. Read the specific official rulebook instead of a social-media packing checklist. Both groups need ID, confirmations, a spare kit, familiar food subject to venue policy and a phone charger.

🍝 Make the meal a reunion, not an obligation

A nearby post-race dinner is an easy group anchor. Let athletes opt out of a heavy pre-race meal and choose flexible restaurant reservations. Put one meeting point and the late-arrival procedure in the shared plan so supporters do not block the athlete check-in queue.

5. Budget the whole trip, not only the entry

For four friends planning three nights in Málaga, this deliberately simple euro example separates known arithmetic from future live quotes. It is a planning model, not a quoted rate or ticket price.

🧮 Four-person Málaga example

Assume two twin rooms at €160 each per night for three nights: 2 × €160 × 3 = €960 total, or €240 per person. Add €35 per person for airport and local transport, €130 for meals and €50 contingency. That makes €455 each before airfare, XENOM entry and any spectator ticket. Fees, different room categories or a single-room request change the result.

💷 Do not convert currencies blindly

Manchester room, train and meal costs are in pounds; Málaga costs are in euros. Compare a local-currency checkout total plus card conversion charges and actual airfares rather than saying one city is cheaper because a nightly number is smaller. Entry fees also depend on event, category and the checkout date.

🔁 Agree the cancellation and pair rule

Shared rooms can become expensive when one person drops out. Record who may cancel, the refund deadline and how the remaining friends split an unrecoverable room. Partners should settle whether they would race solo or seek a permitted ticket change; HYROX and XENOM have different procedures, so use each organizer’s current event terms.

Make an explicit “race only” and “full holiday” budget. Not every friend should pay for another person’s optional extra days.

6. A practical timeline for the group

📌 Before entry opens or while comparing

Choose two real event options, have each person mark preferred format and budget, confirm everyone’s travel document situation, and decide whether a supporter-only trip still appeals if someone cannot get entry.

🛎️ After official entry

Record exact category, venue and event date for each athlete; hold appropriate refundable rooms and flights with tolerable change rules. Vote on one group dinner and an optional city activity. Recalculate the split if someone needs a single room.

📣 Event week

Replace all placeholder blocks with organizer check-in and heat instructions, download tickets, review live transport and baggage rules, and agree a meeting point outside the venue. Leave flexibility for delayed travel and different finish times.

Is the 2027 HYROX World Championship open entry?

No. The June 10–13, 2027 Hong Kong World Championships are qualification based. The regular January Hong Kong race is a separate event.

How early should we book the hotel?
