Valencia Marathon 2027: Where to Stay, Race Logistics and Weekend Costs

Valencia Marathon's established start and finish share the City of Arts and Sciences area, making it unusually easy to plan one hotel for race morning and recovery; stay nearby for convenience, in Russafa for restaurants, or in the historic centre for a fuller city weekend.

1. Valencia Marathon 2027 quick facts

Planning date

Sunday, December 5, 2027; awaiting the organizer's complete 2027 publication

Race hub

Plaça de la Marató and City of Arts and Sciences

Course character

Flat, sea-level route on wide avenues and through the historic centre

Best all-round area

Russafa or the western City of Arts and Sciences edge

Do not treat 2026 details as a 2027 promise. The official site currently confirms the December 6, 2026 edition, City of Arts and Sciences layout and Thursday-to-Saturday expo pattern. The December 5, 2027 date is the present planning date; entry prices, start waves, expo hours and transport changes are still pending.

2. Understand the race layout

The organizer describes a flat, sea-level circuit beginning at Plaça de la Marató and finishing on the footbridge over the water in the City of Arts and Sciences. That shared hub is the central planning advantage. The runner does not need point-to-point buses or a cross-city hotel change; a room within a genuine 15–25 minute walk can work before and after the race.

The course uses wide city avenues, passes historic sights and returns to the futuristic complex. Road closures still make taxis unreliable near the hub. Walk or use transit to a point outside the closure footprint, and follow the final entrance assigned to the runner. A hotel directly across a reflecting pool may require a longer legal route than its map distance suggests.

Test the race-morning walk without shortcuts. Map the hotel entrance to the likely runner access using normal bridges and streets. The complex's pools, gardens and barriers can turn a visually short route into a longer one.

3. Where to stay

🏁 City of Arts and Sciences: best for race convenience

Hotels such as Barceló Valencia, NH Valencia Las Ciencias, Hotel Valencia Oceanic and Ilunion Aqua place runners close to the hub. This is the safest choice for an early start and short recovery walk. The district has restaurants and shopping but less old-city atmosphere. Compare the exact side of the complex, breakfast hours and late checkout rather than paying purely for a landmark view.

🍽️ Russafa: best overall weekend base

Russafa provides cafés, bakeries, restaurants and access toward both the centre and race hub. Hotel options include Senator Parque Central and boutique properties around the neighborhood; apartment supply also exists, but verify legal registration, occupancy and noise. The walk to the start can be manageable from the southern and eastern edge, while a bus or taxi on race morning is less reliable.

🌳 Eixample and Gran Vía: balanced and quieter

Eixample offers wider streets, central dining and a calmer sleep environment than nightlife-heavy blocks. Hospes Palau de la Mar and SH Colón Valencia illustrate the higher-end market, with other chains near Colón and Alameda. This area suits supporters who want the centre while keeping the Turia Gardens and race hub reachable.

🏛️ Ciutat Vella: best for sightseeing

The historic centre places the group near Mercado Central, La Lonja, Plaza de la Reina and old-city restaurants. Vincci Mercat, Only YOU Hotel Valencia and many smaller properties offer character. Narrow streets, weekend crowds and extra race-morning distance are the trade-offs. Choose it for a longer holiday, not because it optimizes the marathon.

🌊 Cabanyal and the beach: good for an extended stay

Cabanyal and Malvarrosa work when the group wants the sea, local restaurants and several extra days. December is not a beach-resort trip, and the race hub is inland. Verify tram or bus connections and do not assume a taxi can cross closures. A short race weekend is usually easier from Russafa or Camins al Grau.

4. Getting to Valencia

Valencia Airport connects to the city by Metrovalencia lines 3 and 5, with the best stop depending on the hotel. Xàtiva and Colón serve central areas; transfers may be needed for the City of Arts and Sciences. Buy the correct airport-zone ticket or travel product, keep a bank card available and check scheduled works for race weekend.

High-speed trains arrive at Joaquín Sorolla station from Madrid and other Spanish cities. Spain's official tourism information notes a free connection to Estació del Nord for eligible rail travelers, while Jesús metro and local buses serve the area. Russafa and Parque Central hotels can be walkable. Barcelona services vary between Joaquín Sorolla and other rail patterns, so confirm the actual arrival station.

A taxi is reasonable with several bags, but the airport and rail station are close enough that public transport often wins. Do not rent a car for a central marathon weekend. Parking, low-emission restrictions and road closures add cost without improving race-day movement.

5. Expo and bib collection

The official 2026 presentation places Expo 42K at Feria Valencia on Thursday, Friday and Saturday before the race. Feria Valencia is northwest of the centre and separate from the City of Arts and Sciences. Treat bib pickup as a planned half-day, not something beside the start. Final 2027 venue, opening hours, identification and authorization rules must be checked when published.

Go Thursday or Friday if possible. Saturday creates queues and encourages unnecessary walking. Bring the exact documents required in the confirmation email, check whether another person may collect, and save the return route. Do not test new shoes, gels or unfamiliar products purchased at the expo.

Feria Valencia is served by metro and tram connections, but line details and operating patterns can change. Plan the journey from the hotel in both directions and combine it with groceries only if the runner remains rested. Supporters do not all need to attend.

6. Race-morning transport and supporters

Walk from a nearby hotel when possible. If using Metrovalencia or EMT buses, leave before the official recommendation and exit outside closures. Supporters should not escort the runner into the assembly unless access is permitted. Agree where they will first appear on the course and which side of the road.

The route's broad city circuit gives supporters several potential sightings, but final streets and crossing points determine what is realistic. The Turia Gardens create a useful pedestrian spine near parts of the city. A simple plan uses one central sighting and then the finish-side reunion. Chasing three locations by taxi is worse than one reliable cheer point.

At the finish, the runner crosses the iconic water footbridge but continues through controlled recovery. Pick a landmark outside the exit flow, plus a backup hotel meeting time. The white buildings resemble one another to a tired visitor; name the exact museum, bridge or entrance rather than saying “by the City of Arts.”

7. Three-day itinerary

📋 Friday: arrive and collect

Check in, eat a familiar lunch and visit the expo before the busiest period. Buy breakfast and race nutrition from a supermarket. Take a short walk only; save Mercado Central and major sightseeing for after the race.

🍚 Saturday: feet up and food settled

Test the hotel-to-start route, prepare kit and eat the planned main meal early. Russafa and Eixample have many choices, but reserve a restaurant that will serve the required simple food. Avoid a late paella feast, alcohol experiment or full day at Oceanogràfic.

🏅 Sunday: race and recovery

Runner walks to the assigned entrance. Supporters use the agreed course point and finish reunion. After recovery, choose an easy meal near the hotel. Book Sunday night so showers, luggage and sleep are not tied to late checkout.

☕ Monday: Valencia reward day

Use a slow walk through the Turia Gardens, old centre or seafront according to recovery. Mercado Central, La Lonja and a proper paella lunch are better rewards now than before the race. Leave enough time for the airport or rail station.

8. Food without race-week mistakes

Valencia is a food destination, but marathon weekend needs sequence. Keep Friday and Saturday meals familiar, moderate and early. Choose rice, pasta, bread, potatoes and simple protein the runner already tolerates. Ask restaurants about serving times; Spanish dinner hours can be later than a runner wants.

Save traditional paella for after the race or Monday. Authentic paella valenciana is generally a lunch dish and often requires advance ordering. Casa Carmela by the beach, La Pepica on the seafront and central restaurants such as Navarro are names to compare, not guarantees of availability. Confirm opening days and reserve directly.

Russafa offers coffee and modern dining, while Mercado Central is useful for fruit, bread and snacks during opening hours. Buy Sunday breakfast on Saturday. The runner should carry familiar gels and hydration rather than depending on finding a specific imported brand.

9. Realistic weekend budget

These are planning ranges per person for three nights sharing a twin room, before flights and race entry. The organizer has not published 2027 fees, and accommodation should be priced with refundable December inventory.

Three hotel nights

Sharing in Russafa, Eixample or near the race hub

€210–€600

Food and coffee

Race-friendly meals plus recovery dinner

€110–€240

Airport and local transport

Metro, buses and limited taxi use

€25–€80

Race supplies

Breakfast, pharmacy and familiar nutrition

€25–€85

Activities

Old city, Oceanogràfic or museums

€20–€90

Contingency

Late checkout or travel disruption

€50–€150

Three-night ground total

Per person before flights and race entry

€440–€1,245
