Euro 2028 Dublin Travel Guide: Hotels, Stadium Access and Weekend Cost

Dublin Arena is the Aviva Stadium at Lansdowne Road, southeast of the city centre. Staying in Ballsbridge or around Grand Canal Dock can let your group walk back after a Euro 2028 match; a cheaper room across town may leave everyone competing for a packed DART or an expensive late taxi.

1. Quick facts

Venue

Dublin Arena / Aviva Stadium, Lansdowne Road

Group dates

10, 12, 16, 19 and 21 June 2028

Knockout dates

Round of 16 on 27 June; quarter-final on 30 June

Closest rail

Lansdowne Road DART; event access may change

Ireland is not guaranteed to appear in a specific Dublin fixture; the reserved host group position applies only if it qualifies. UEFA has not published regular 2028 ticket prices. The final draw, kickoff times and match-specific DART crowd plan should guide nonrefundable travel.

2. What is confirmed for Dublin

🏟️ Seven fixtures, one compact stadium

UEFA lists five group matches at Dublin Arena on 10, 12, 16, 19 and 21 June, a round of 16 on 27 June and a quarter-final on 30 June 2028. Its Dublin Arena name refers to the Aviva Stadium at Lansdowne Road. You can build a weekend around two nearby group dates without committing to a multi-city trip, but those dates do not tell you which national teams will play.

🎟️ Ticket timing and the Ireland caveat

UEFA says it will publish regular prices and full sale details in autumn 2027, with sales after the expected December 2027 final draw. There will be a public ballot and official face-value resale. The Republic of Ireland has a reserved group-head position for home fixtures if it qualifies; qualification is not automatic. Do not buy a “guaranteed Ireland in Dublin” package from a seller who cannot substantiate official inventory.

🚈 Lansdowne Road is the stadium stop

Aviva Stadium directs spectators from the centre by southbound DART to Lansdowne Road. That works for many visitors, but major events sometimes use crowd controls or even a temporary station closure after play; Irish Rail did so for a 2026 international. Follow the 2028 event-specific notice once issued, and decide whether your group can walk back instead.

☘️ Build a Dublin trip, not just a gate arrival

The stadium is close enough to pair with a walk along Grand Canal Dock, a meal around Ballsbridge and a city-centre day. If several friends have different ticket outcomes, shared hotel and dinner plans still work. Decide before the ballot whether the group would keep the Dublin weekend if only some people receive stadium tickets.

Put the venue, ticket application holder, hotel cancellation deadline and matchday meeting point in one shared plan. A confirmed stadium date still does not confirm your team or tickets.

3. Where to stay: four useful bases

🏨 Ballsbridge for walking to the match

Clayton Hotel Ballsbridge describes Aviva as around a 15-minute walk. Other Ballsbridge rooms around Pembroke Road and Herbert Park can be convenient, but compare the exact pedestrian route and bed layout. You will pay for match-night proximity, so hold a refundable twin room early and compare the full two-night total. A walk home is especially valuable if DART queues or closures are announced.

🚆 Grand Canal Dock for rail and restaurants

Grand Canal Hotel says it is near Aviva and about two minutes from Grand Canal Dock DART station. The area offers a balance of stadium access and city restaurants, with a possible walk to the ground for many guests. Check actual luggage storage and cancellation terms. Do not assume the DART stop will be the quickest return if the event crowd plan directs fans toward other streets.

🌃 City centre for a broader weekend

A room near Pearse, Tara Street or Connolly can make sightseeing and the airport bus easier while keeping DART in reach. Temple Bar is lively but can be noisy and poor value for sleep; compare quieter streets north or south of the river. If your group plans two match days, calculate the two stadium returns before accepting an apparent city-centre bargain.

💶 Sandymount and farther bases

Sandymount can be a quieter option with local DART access and a longer walk depending on address. A budget room far from the centre may save on nightly rate but need two taxis after a late match. Ask how many real beds a property provides, whether local lodging rules permit the booking, and whether the 2028 event cancellation deadline falls after ticket results.

4. Airport and stadium transport

🚌 Dublin Airport to town

Transport for Ireland lists regular Dublin City bus routes 16 and 41 at the airport; these may be lower-cost than dedicated express coaches but slower with luggage. Express airport coaches and taxis are alternatives depending on hotel location and arrival time. Dublin Airport has no direct DART train into the city. Compare door-to-door time and late-night service, not only the headline fare.

🎫 Local fares are current examples, not 2028 promises

As of October 2026, Transport for Ireland lists the adult TFI 90-minute fare at €2.00 with a Leap card in Dublin Zone 1, covering eligible city buses, Luas and DART. A cash fare or airport express coach is different. Use the current TFI journey planner and fare page before departure; 2028 fares and eligibility may change.

🚉 Aviva from central stations

From Connolly, Irish Rail describes a direct DART to Lansdowne Road. From Heuston, its event guidance suggests Luas to Connolly and DART onward. On matchday, allow time for a queue at the platform and the stadium security perimeter. The designated entrance on your ticket may affect which side street to use; do not assume a taxi will drop at the gate.

🚶 Make a walking fallback

If staying near Ballsbridge or Grand Canal Dock, record a safe walking route back to the hotel and a meeting point away from the stadium. A DART station closure for a different 2026 international shows why a published everyday route is not a promise for Euro 2028. Check accessible access separately if anyone cannot comfortably walk the full distance.

5. A three-day match weekend

🧳 Arrival day: hotel first, then a relaxed dinner

Land with time for the airport transfer, check in and meet at a named location. Walk Grand Canal Dock or Merrion Square if the weather suits. Reserve dinner near the hotel rather than making a tight cross-city booking for friends arriving on different flights. Note the nearest useful DART station, the hotel cancellation rule and the card/currency used for each shared expense.

⚽ Match day: leave the afternoon clear

Eat before travelling to Lansdowne Road, then follow UEFA and stadium guidance for your gate. The group can separate if some friends want a museum, but set a precise meeting time before the security lines. Allow a long post-match exit and keep dinner flexible. If people lack tickets, do not promise an official public screening until a fan-zone programme is announced.

📚 Final day: one Dublin activity and departure

Choose one of the National Gallery, a literary walk or a coastal DART outing if your flight leaves late. The Guinness Storehouse and Jameson experiences are paid options requiring separate reservation; do not book them for everyone by default. Allow for city-to-airport traffic and settle shared hotel and meal expenses before friends split across departures.

6. Weekend cost and group decision

🧮 Two-night planning model in euros

Reserve €170–€350 per person for two nights sharing a €170–€350 room, €20–€60 for airport and city transport, €80–€150 for meals and €30–€75 for attractions or contingency. Total: €300–€635 before flights and match tickets. This is an illustrative reserve, not a quoted June 2028 hotel rate; peak match dates, single rooms and premium central hotels can exceed it.

🎟️ Keep official tickets separate

No regular face-value Euro 2028 price has been published. A group can agree a per-match ceiling now but should wait for UEFA’s autumn 2027 category chart and official ballot terms. Hospitality is a different product. A refundable room plus a ticket decision date is better than including an arbitrary match ticket estimate in an all-in advertised weekend cost.

👥 Make the hotel vote explicit

Compare Ballsbridge walking convenience, Grand Canal Dock flexibility and a city-centre social base. Each friend should see the exact twin-share cost, cancellation date and extra charge if one person drops out. Split only shared hotel and agreed bookings; drinks and optional attractions stay personal. One organizer can then book without becoming the unpaid banker for everyone.
