ATHX Madrid 2027: How to Plan Your Trip, Hotels and Weekend Itinerary
ATHX Madrid is at IFEMA near the airport, not in the historic center, so choose between a convenient Campo de las Naciones hotel and a city base with a clear Line 8 connection before turning the race into a longer friends weekend.
1. ATHX Madrid 2027: dates, venue and entry prices
Dates
Saturday 8–Sunday 9 May 2027
Venue
IFEMA Madrid exhibition grounds
Address
Avenida del Partenón 5, 28042 Madrid
Displayed entry
€150 individual; €275 per pair before checkout extras
Feria de Madrid is the useful Metro Line 8 station. It does not identify the ATHX hall or guarantee a particular gate will be open. Final event instructions should determine the entrance, check-in and personal heat; the public 08:00–18:00 window is not your assigned start time.

2. Confirm the entry day before booking the weekend
The official Madrid listing covers 8–9 May and advertises individual and pairs formats, with ATHX, Pro and Lite categories. Select the actual division, competition day and available heat in checkout before paying for fixed travel. Two friends can be on the same trip without competing at the same time. Friday arrival and Monday departure preserve both event days; a shorter stay works only when the confirmed competition schedule fits. Keep any Sunday flight away from a guessed finish time, especially if the group has athletes across both days.
🎟️ €137.50 is the equal share of a pair
The listed team price is €275 before extras, compared with €150 for an individual entry. Put one person in charge of checking the two participant names and payment. Read the current change and withdrawal conditions before promising that a different friend can automatically take a partner’s place.
🏋️ Check the 2027 format and equipment
ATHX publishes 2027 workouts separately from the previous season. Read the strength, endurance and MetCon X requirements for the format you choose, plus permitted kit and final athlete instructions. A trip guide can organize the journey but should not decide an athlete’s category or replace preparation advice.
👀 Supporters can have their own daytime plan
Check spectator ticket conditions rather than assuming athlete entry covers the group. Friends who want to explore can meet competitors after the event. One agreed reunion point and dinner window is more useful than trying to make every traveler spend both days inside IFEMA.
3. Where to stay: IFEMA, Nuevos Ministerios or central Madrid
For an athlete-first weekend, compare Campo de las Naciones beside IFEMA. Novotel Madrid Feria and Airport at Calle Amsterdam 3 is the current name on Accor’s hotel page; older references call it Novotel Madrid Campo de las Naciones. Pullman Madrid Airport & Feria is another named nearby shortlist. Neither should be confused with Novotel Madrid Center, a different property. For a broader city trip, a hotel near Nuevos Ministerios provides a useful Line 8 starting point, while Sol or Gran Vía prioritizes sightseeing but needs an onward connection.
🏨 Novotel Madrid Feria and Airport
Compare the final room total, separate beds, breakfast and the route to the published athlete gate. Its location suits an event-first stay, but do not infer a dedicated ATHX shuttle or early athlete buffet from a general hotel description. Ask about the service you actually need before paying.
🛏️ Pullman Madrid Airport & Feria
Use this as a second venue-area comparison rather than automatically choosing the first nearby hotel. Check cancellation terms and any advertised airport transfer’s current operation, hours and terminal coverage. A hotel with airport in its name is not inside the terminal and does not remove the need for a transfer plan.
🚇 Nuevos Ministerios versus the historic center
Nuevos Ministerios is useful when the group values a direct Line 8 leg. Sol, Gran Vía and the streets toward Plaza Mayor give friends a more central city experience but add a connection and walking. Compare the complete commute, quiet-room options and total transport rather than judging solely by a cheaper nightly rate.
4. Airport arrivals: IFEMA is not the same fare zone as central Madrid
Madrid-Barajas, MAD, has Metro Line 8 serving the airport and Feria de Madrid. Match the terminal station to your actual arrival, then check service and the last hotel walk. Airport T4 and Aeropuerto T1-T2-T3 are different stops. For a central hotel, compare rail and authorized taxi options; for an IFEMA hotel, compare the short local transfer on its own merits. Do not quote the central-Madrid fixed taxi fare for an IFEMA trip just because both destinations are in Madrid.
🚇 Airport metro has specific ticket rules
CRTM currently lists a €3 airport supplement when traveling to airport stations with applicable single or ten-journey tickets. It is an addition to the underlying fare, not the whole ticket. Products and exemptions differ, and these checked 2026 rules are not a promise of unchanged May 2027 prices.
🚕 The current €33 fixed taxi fare has a boundary
Official guidance applies that fare between the airport and destinations inside the M-30. IFEMA is outside that central area, so use the applicable meter or tariff rules for the actual hotel. For friends sharing a vehicle, compare the whole quote and luggage capacity, not a per-person price borrowed from a different route.
🚆 Rail arrivals need a station-specific plan
Madrid has several major stations, including Atocha and Chamartín. Use the name on the ticket and the current journey planner to reach the chosen hotel. Friends arriving separately can go straight to the room and meet later rather than making everyone converge at one terminal or station.
5. Race-day access: Line 8 and the final IFEMA entrance
Feria de Madrid on Line 8 is the standard metro approach in IFEMA’s guidance. From Nuevos Ministerios, travel toward the airport and leave at the fair station; from a central neighborhood, include the connection to Line 8. The complex is large, so a station-side entrance may still leave a substantial internal walk to the ATHX hall. IFEMA’s access pages contain works and event-specific notices that can change over time. Follow information for the actual May weekend rather than copying temporary directions from a previous show.
📍 Save the hall and athlete gate when published
Put the exact entrance in the shared itinerary and send it to supporters or the taxi driver. The Avenida del Partenón address identifies the grounds but not every event check-in. Allow enough time to find the hall after leaving the metro, particularly if carrying kit or meeting a partner.
🎫 Buy a fare for each traveler
Follow CRTM and Metro instructions for the selected ticket or card and validation. Check whether any airport supplement applies to the journey, rather than adding it to every city trip automatically. Keep the fare product and the event entry distinct: a race confirmation is not public-transport admission.
🚗 Compare parking only if you need a car
Check the active event access, open car parks and payment conditions before driving. Include hotel parking as well as venue parking. A rental car can be unnecessary for a short stay built around the metro, and city sightseeing introduces separate traffic, parking and access considerations.
6. A three-night Madrid itinerary: 7–10 May 2027
Arrive Friday, protect the booked race day and leave Monday if the group wants a full free day. Saturday competitors can explore Sunday; Sunday competitors should keep Saturday comfortable and avoid a late evening before the event. In May, a park walk or outdoor meal can be pleasant, but keep a weather alternative and do not make the schedule depend on a forecast months away. Choose one central area and one optional attraction rather than turning every gap into another reservation.
📆 Friday: hotel, food and a simple route check
If staying at IFEMA, settle in locally and save the entrance and breakfast plan. If central, check the whole metro journey and choose an early familiar meal. Let sightseeing friends explore independently if their flight arrives earlier; the athlete should not need to catch up with a long evening itinerary.
🏋️ Race day: one anchor and one shared meal
Use the actual heat and required arrival as the fixed points. After competing, allow time for food, changing and returning to the hotel before dinner. Supporters can choose a nearby café or an independent city visit, then meet after the latest competitor has a realistic buffer.
🌳 Free day: Retiro or a compact old-town route
Retiro works as a gentle outdoor option, while a Prado visit is a separate ticket-and-opening decision. Alternatively connect Sol, Plaza Mayor and nearby streets at a relaxed pace. Santiago Bernabéu tours are another optional outing with their own availability, not something to promise between heats.
7. Food and evenings: local convenience versus a city celebration
Venue-area guests can start with their own hotel restaurants and compare current menus, then choose whether a central celebration is worth the journey. Mercado de San Miguel near Plaza Mayor is a named food-market option for the free day, with varied stalls rather than a guaranteed seated group dinner. Its official site provides current visitor and booking information; check operation before the trip instead of relying on old closure reports or old opening hours. For a larger party, a reserved restaurant table can be simpler than finding everyone space at different counters.
🍽️ Keep the pre-event meal near the room
Use the Novotel or Pullman dining information as an initial shortlist and confirm service hours and dietary options. A familiar meal and predictable return can matter more than a famous address the night before an early heat. Check breakfast separately, since dinner service does not imply an athlete-friendly morning opening.
🥘 San Miguel is a tasting stop, not a cheap-meal promise
Agree a spending limit before choosing multiple small dishes. Different counters, drinks and repeated orders can add up quickly. Friends can each pay for their own choices and meet at a named point afterward; do not assume a crowded market provides one shared table for a large group.
🌆 Choose one optional central evening
If staying at IFEMA, include the outbound and return journey before reserving dinner in the center. Check the last usable metro connection and keep a taxi fallback. Friends wanting a later night can stay out separately while a Sunday competitor returns earlier without disrupting everyone else.
8. A three-night Madrid budget and a fair group split
For individual entry and two people sharing a room, allow €555–965 per person before flights or intercity rail. The table is a planning model for three nights, moderate meals, airport/local transport and one optional outing, with contingency for price changes and checkout extras. It is not a live May 2027 hotel quote. Replace estimates with actual payable totals before booking; solo occupancy, premium meals, repeated taxis and extra nights can materially change the weekend.
| Cost item | Allowance |
|---|---|
| Individual entry | €150 |
| Three-night hotel share | €180–330 |
| Meals | €90–165 |
| Airport and local transport | €35–75 |
| Optional attraction | €25–65 |
| Contingency and checkout-fee reserve | €75–180 |
| Total before destination travel | €555–965 |
🛏️ Hotel share: €180–330 for three nights
The model assumes a final room total of roughly €120–220 per night split two ways. Compare breakfast, bed type and cancellation terms on the same basis. Ask about the incidental card hold separately: it affects available funds even when refundable and not part of the final room expense.
🧮 Use the entry line that belongs to the traveler
A pairs athlete’s equal entry share is €137.50, €12.50 below the individual model before extras. A supporter uses the actual spectator cost instead. Split taxis among their riders and hotel charges among the room occupants, not automatically across everyone who joined the trip chat.
📱 Put the two hotel strategies to a vote
In FlowTrip, compare the IFEMA hotel total with a city stay plus transport. Store the selected booking, each athlete’s day, arrival details and one shared dinner. Keep personal shopping and nightlife outside the shared balance so the weekend remains affordable for friends with different priorities.
